I would suggest turning on the comment verification feature if you want to avoid crappy spam comments.
Also, for photo blogging I use www.flickr.com. You can set up a free account and upload pictures, then post them to your blog in a few different ways. I usually get the html code for the picture in a particular size, then adjust the pixel numbers so it's the right width for my blog. A more user-friendly way would be to click "blog this" and you can post the picture AND text from within the Flickr site, and it will show up on your blog.
