Marcotte and Seal speak out

Read it here

Amanda Marcotte has done the right thing. I'm ashamed that I doubted she would.

This whole ordeal has been painful for all involved. I hope Amanda knows that just because this happened doesn't mean I value her voice any less.

I wouldn't be ashamed at all. I don't understand how those images got in there in the first place. I don't understand how supposedly educated, informed people let this situation get this far. I'm not personally involved in this, yet, but when two major bloggers take their sites down out of validated anger and resentment, I wouldn't expect anything at all from Amanda.

At the very least, this situation has exposed the underbelly of interactions involving feminism and nonwhite women, and opened valuable spaces for dialogue.

Yeah the images going in -- WOW? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN? But I was really starting to think of Amanda as this super villain or something. I felt kinda bad when she came out and apologized.

I've been forced to stay offline recently because I don't have the time to deal with all the commenting and thinking that would ensue, but I'm glad things are wrapping up.

Amanda will need to prove herself in the future as being worthy of the trust and respect she had before, but that's life. It's possible for her to do that.

I really respected Amanda because her blog played and still plays a big part in my feminism, and I still respect her, in a way. However, she has made a mistake, and hurt people because of it. There's no easy way out of this, and it's been painful to watch, and painful that it's affected her.

At the same time, we've got to remember the worse effect it's had on WOC bloggers. I'm just hoping we all learn something from this.
